Free CRM for contractors: what's actually free

Four real free plans, two free trials, and the limits each one hits once you're quoting every week. Including ours, which isn't free.

14-day free trial · no credit card · from $30/mo · your techs are free

Disclosure: we make FieldStacker, so weigh our take accordingly. FieldStacker is not a free CRM, and we list it here as a trial, not as a free plan. Every other figure comes from the vendor's own pricing page, checked October 26, 2026.

In short: a free CRM for contractors exists, but it's either a general CRM with user and record caps (HubSpot, Zoho CRM, Bigin) or a trade tool with a small free tier (Roofr for roofers). Field service apps like Jobber, Housecall Pro and FieldStacker offer free trials, not free plans.

Free is a fine place to start when you're one person with a phone full of contacts. It stops being free when the CRM can't send the estimate, put the job on a crew's schedule or take the card, and you're paying for those in other apps and re-typing the same customer three times. Look at where each option runs out, not just the $0.

The free options, one by one

Who each fits, what you get, what it costs to grow, and the limit to know about.

🟠

HubSpot Free CRM

For: a contractor who mostly needs a clean contact list and a deal pipeline.

Free plan: up to 2 users, 1,000 contacts, no time limit, no card.

To grow: Starter is listed from $7/seat/mo.

Limitation: a general sales and marketing CRM. Crew scheduling, job checklists and job costing aren't what it's built for.

🔵

Zoho CRM Free

For: a small office of up to 3 people who want reminders and simple automation.

Free plan: 3 users with contact management, follow-up reminders, workflow automation, up to 10 email templates, standard reports and mobile apps.

To grow: paid edition prices weren't shown on the page we checked; check their site.

Limitation: data export capped at 10 times on the free edition, and it's a general CRM, not a job tool.

🟡

Bigin by Zoho

For: a solo owner who wants the simplest possible pipeline.

Free plan: 1 user, 500 records, 1 pipeline, 3 automations and 1 booking page.

To grow: Express is $9/user/mo monthly or $7 billed yearly.

Limitation: 500 records is a few months of leads for an active contractor.

🏠

Roofr Starter (free roofing CRM)

For: roofers who want a free job board and pay-per-report measurements.

Free plan: $0 with 1 basic job board, 10 trial proposals, invoices or work orders, 5 automated actions and unlimited users. Measurement reports are $19 each on Starter.

To grow: Essentials is $249/mo monthly or $209/mo yearly.

Limitation: the 10 trial documents are the ceiling; a busy roofer quotes past that in a week or two.

⏳

Jobber and Housecall Pro

For: home service businesses ready to pay for a full field service app.

Free: no free plan; each has a 14-day free trial with no card.

After the trial: Jobber Core $49/mo billed monthly for 1 user; Housecall Pro Basic $79/mo billed monthly ($59/mo yearly) for 1 user.

Limitation: several features sit on higher tiers; see our best CRM for contractors comparison.

🧰

FieldStacker

For: contractors and home service businesses who want estimates, scheduling, invoicing and lead finding in one app.

Free: no free CRM plan. A 14-day trial with no card, and a Digital Business Card that's free forever (QR code and review capture, no website).

After the trial: Pro $30/mo, or $25/mo billed yearly. Techs you add are free.

Limitation: it costs money after 14 days, and it has no QuickBooks Desktop support.

For roofers

A roofing CRM that measures for about a cent

If you're looking for a free roofing CRM because measurement reports eat your margin, here's the FieldStacker approach. On the knock map, tap Measure roof on a house: it returns roof area, squares, average pitch and the number of roof faces from satellite building data. It costs about a cent per house and is cached, so the same house never costs twice. Where there's no satellite coverage, you trace the roof by hand on the map.

  • Satellite roof measurement on the pin; coverage varies
  • Not a certified measurement report, so order one when a carrier needs it
  • Inspections, appointments and quotes in the same app

FieldStacker Finances screen for a home service company: income, expenses, net profit, estimated taxes, a recommended quarterly tax set-aside and profit by month
What a paid plan buys you

The books, not just the contacts

The part free CRMs leave to you is the money. FieldStacker keeps income, expenses and road-accurate mileage as you work, scans receipts from a photo, and shows profit by week, month or year with a quarterly tax set-aside estimate. Invoices, payments and expenses sync to QuickBooks Online. On the 14-day trial you can run two real weeks of work through it and judge whether that's worth $30 a month.

Free CRM questions

Is there a free CRM for contractors?

Yes, but the free plans come from general CRMs with limits. HubSpot is free for up to 2 users and 1,000 contacts, Zoho CRM has a free edition for 3 users, and Bigin is free for 1 user and 500 records, per their pricing pages checked October 26, 2026. None of them is built around estimates, crew schedules and job costing.

What is the best free roofing CRM?

Roofr has a $0 Starter plan with one basic job board, 10 trial proposals, invoices or work orders, 5 automated actions and unlimited users; measurement reports cost $19 each on that plan (checked October 26, 2026). It is a real free start for a roofer, but the 10 trial documents run out fast once you are quoting every week.

Is there free CRM software for small business?

HubSpot, Zoho CRM and Bigin all have free plans that work for a small business tracking contacts and deals. For a service business, the gap is the work itself: scheduling, invoices, card payments and recurring visits usually mean a paid plan somewhere.

Is FieldStacker free?

No. FieldStacker has a 14-day free trial with no credit card, then Pro is $30/mo or $25/mo billed yearly. The Digital Business Card is free forever, with a QR code and review capture, but it is a card, not a CRM. Techs you add to a paid plan are free.

What is the catch with a free CRM?

Usually a cap on users or records, missing job tools, and the cost of moving later. Card processing fees still apply whatever CRM you use. Count the hours you spend copying data between a free CRM and your invoicing app; that time is the real price.

Can I move from a free CRM to FieldStacker later?

Yes. Free import from HubSpot, Jobber, SalesRabbit or your current CRM is included, and you can upload a CSV or Excel file up to 250 MB yourself with undo.
