Free lawn care software: what you actually get

Two real free plans, one free method everybody starts with, and three trials you can use before you pay. With the catch in each, so you don't load a season of customers into the wrong one.

14-day free trial · no credit card · from $30/mo · your crew is free

Disclosure: We make FieldStacker, so weigh our pick accordingly. FieldStacker is not free lawn care software; it has a free trial and a free digital card, and we say so below. Other details come from each vendor's own site, checked October 26, 2026.

In short: free lawn care software exists, but every free plan has a limit. Yardbook's basic plan is free and ad-supported, with a 1% fee on online payments for non-premium accounts. Zoho FSM's free plan allows 30 appointments a month. Past those, you are choosing between a spreadsheet and a paid app with a trial.

Do the math on your route first. Forty weekly mowing customers is about 170 visits a month. That is past a 30-appointment cap in the first week, and on a 1% payment fee, $8,000 a month in online payments costs you $80. Free is real for a part-time mower with a dozen yards. It gets expensive in other ways once the route fills up.

The part of FieldStacker that is free

The digital business card costs nothing and never expires. Customers tap Call, Email or Save contact, open your website and social pages, and leave a review. Hand out the QR code on door hangers or the side of the trailer. It won't run your schedule, but it gets your name into phones while you're still on a spreadsheet.

  • A card page with call, email and save contact
  • A QR code to print anywhere
  • Review capture

What the paid app does for the money

A spreadsheet can list customers; it can't charge a card when a mow is marked done or log your mileage while you drive. On Pro, mowing customers go on weekly plans with autopay, day routes put the stops in order, and Finances shows income, expenses, mileage and a suggested quarterly tax set-aside. Card payments run through your own Stripe account at standard Stripe rates, with no FieldStacker fee added.

Free lawn care software questions

Is there really free lawn care software?

Yes. Yardbook has a free basic plan paid for by advertising, and Zoho FSM has a free plan capped at 30 appointments a month. A spreadsheet and Google Calendar are free too. Each one has a catch, usually a payment fee, a cap or your own time.

What is the catch with free lawn care apps?

Free plans make money another way. Yardbook's terms list a 1% processing fee on online payments for accounts that aren't premium. Zoho FSM's free plan stops at 30 appointments a month, which a mowing route can pass in its first week. Check what happens to your data and fees before you load a season of customers.

Is FieldStacker free?

No, not the full app. The digital business card with a QR code and review capture is free forever. Scheduling, plans, routes and payments are on Pro at $30/mo, or $25/mo billed yearly, with a 14-day free trial and no credit card.

When is it worth paying for lawn care software?

When autopay and routes save you more time than the plan costs. If you spend a Friday afternoon each week writing invoices or chasing checks, put a price on those hours and compare it with a $30 to $50 plan that charges the card after each mow for you.

Can I start free and move to paid software later?

Yes. Keep your customer list in a format you can export, such as a CSV. FieldStacker imports CSV or Excel files up to 250 MB with undo, and we import your customers and jobs for free when you switch.
