A roof estimate has the same bones every time. Squares of shingles with a waste allowance. Underlayment, ice and water shield in the valleys and eaves, drip edge, starter, ridge cap, vents, pipe boots and flashing. Tear-off per layer, install labor per square, a steep or high charge, the dumpster and the permit. Most roofers carry those prices in their head or in a spreadsheet, then retype them into a PDF at night.
FieldStacker keeps those prices in one list you search as you build the quote, and each material carries a quantity formula over the roof's edges and squares. You bring the measurement and the judgment from the inspection; the app turns them into clean roof options the homeowner can read, pick and sign, and a material list for the order.
Roofing estimating software that matches how you price
Six tools that make a roof quote faster to build and easier to say yes to.
Your own price list
Shingle lines, underlayment, flashing, labor per square, tear-off per layer and disposal live in Equipment & pricing. Search it as you add lines.
Automatic lines
Set a rule once, for example "when I add architectural shingles, add the install labor line." The matching line comes along every time.
Upgrades they can tick
Offer a ridge vent upgrade, new gutters or gutter guards as optional add-ons. The homeowner ticks the ones they want.
Discounts with a reason
Take a percentage or a dollar amount off any line and say why, such as a neighbor discount or a second roof on the same street.
Deposits on signing
Ask for a deposit as a percentage or a dollar amount so the material order is covered before the crew is booked.
Signed on the spot
The homeowner signs on your phone at the table, or scans a QR code to read, sign and pay on their own phone.

New for roofers: options, materials, claims and commission
Live now on roofing accounts. Six ways the roof estimate does more of the math for you, using your prices and your formulas.
Good, Better, Best per square
Three roof options priced per square, with adders for steep pitch, extra layers, two- and three-story homes, low slope and decking, or priced to a target margin. The homeowner approves one and pays the deposit. The right-to-cancel notice for home sales is included.
A bill of materials that does the counting
Each material line, from starter and hip and ridge to ice and water, drip edge, step flashing and pipe boots, has a quantity formula over the roof's eaves, rakes, ridges, hips, valleys, flashing lengths and squares by pitch. Waste goes on field shingles only, and you can edit every formula and cost.
Measurement in, from anywhere
Start from Measure roof (area, pitch and pitch bands from satellite data, not a certified report), trace or type the edges, or import the EagleView, Roofr, Hover or GAF QuickMeasure report you bought as PDF, CSV, JSON or XML.
Insurance estimates from the scope
Mark the quote as a claim with the carrier, claim number, adjuster, date of loss and cause. FieldStacker reads the adjuster's scope PDF, prices at RCV plus approved supplements, asks for the ACV as the deposit and shows who pays what.
Supplements you can track
It suggests items the scope seems to miss, like drip edge, starter, ice and water, step flashing, steep charges or overhead and profit. Copy or email the request to the adjuster and track it to approved or denied. The deductible is never waived.
Commission on the quote
Reps see their commission on the quote as they build it, worked out from the pay plan the owner set: a share of gross profit or the sale, dollars per square, or a flat amount per job.
Measure, three options, a yes, an order
1. Measure. On the house, tap 📐 Measure roof for the area and pitch, then trace, type or import the edges.
2. Three options. Tap 🏠 Roof quote. Good, Better and Best are priced per square from that measurement, with your adders for steep pitch, extra layers, two- and three-story homes, low slope and decking, or priced to a target margin. Your rep sees their commission; the homeowner does not.
3. The homeowner says yes. They pick one on their phone, tick any add-on you left out, such as a chimney re-flash, a ridge vent or gutter guards, and pay the deposit online. The right-to-cancel notice is already on the quote.
4. The order. The bill of materials becomes the material order on the job sheet, ready for your supplier.
A material list that shows its math
Under every line on the order is the formula that produced it. Field shingles are the roof area plus waste, divided by what one bundle covers. Starter is the eaves plus the rakes, over the length of a bundle. Hip and ridge, underlayment and ice and water each work off their own measured lengths. Waste goes on field shingles only. When someone asks why the order says seven rolls, the answer is printed right there, and if your crew does it differently, change the formula, the product or the cost in your catalog and every quote after that uses it.
- Shingles, starter, hip and ridge, underlayment, ice and water, drip edge, flashing, vents, pipe boots, nails, sealant and decking
- Emailed to your supplier from your business email, or printed or copied
- Not emailed while the edges are still estimates
- Leftovers you put back into stock are used first on the next order
One estimate, three ways to say yes
When the estimate is ready, pick how the homeowner sees it. Hand them your phone to sign at the table. Show a QR code so they can open it on their own phone and sign while you pack up. Or text or email it for the spouse who was not home. If nobody signs, the estimate follow-up emails go out on their own, and you can edit the words or switch them off.
- Customer signs here, or a QR code for their own phone
- Text or email the estimate from the same screen
- Automatic estimate follow-ups by email, and by text with the texting add-on
- Turn the signed estimate into the invoice when the roof is done
The signature, before you leave
Most roof sales are lost after the roofer drives away and the homeowner calls two more companies. Getting the signature at the table changes that. The homeowner reads the quote, signs with a finger, types their name and agrees to sign electronically. Signing does not charge them; the deposit is a separate step they can pay right after by card.
- Finger signature and typed name on your phone
- Or a QR code to sign and pay on their own
- Deposit by card right after signing, through your own Stripe account
Change orders when the decking is bad
You cannot see the decking until the shingles are off. When the crew finds soft plywood or a second layer, add a change order to the job: the extra sheets of decking or the extra tear-off, with its own deposit if you want one. The homeowner approves it, and the final invoice already includes it. Your estimates and invoices sit in one list with their status, next to your price list, so you can see what is out, what is signed and what is unpaid.
- Change orders with extra lines and their own deposit
- The homeowner approves the change before the work goes on
- On a claim, an approved supplement is added to the estimate, or becomes a change order once money is in
- Estimates, in-progress jobs and unpaid invoices in one list
How to build a roof estimate in FieldStacker
The steps a retail roofer takes, and where the app does the work.
Measure
Tap Measure roof on the house for area and pitch from satellite data, trace or type the edges, or import the report you bought, then confirm on the inspection. See roof measuring.
Build the options
Price Good, Better and Best per square with your adders, search your price list for anything extra, and let automatic lines and the bill of materials fill in labor and materials.
Offer the upgrades
Add-ons you left out, like vents, gutters or a chimney re-flash, are offered as optional lines, plus any line discount with its reason.
Sign and deposit
The homeowner signs and pays the deposit. The job is ready to schedule in FieldStacker's roofing software.
Roof estimating programs compared, briefly
Roof estimating programs fall into three groups. Insurance estimating software writes the carrier's scope; FieldStacker does not create Xactimate or ESX estimates, but it reads the adjuster's scope PDF and builds your claim estimate and supplement requests from it. Measurement-led tools such as Roofr pair a paid measurement report with a proposal; Roofr's reports start at $13 each on its paid plans and it sells an Instant Estimator add-on at $125/mo (checked October 26, 2026). Roofing CRMs such as JobNimbus and AccuLynx include estimates and contracts inside a larger system with pricing on request. FieldStacker sits with the CRMs at a published price: Good/Better/Best estimates, a material list from the measurement, signatures, deposits, insurance claims with supplements and change orders on your own price list, tied to the schedule and the invoice. It imports a measurement report you bought rather than selling one. Our best roofing CRM roundup compares them, and the roofing CRM page shows the follow-up side.
Roof estimating questions
What is the best roof estimating software?
It depends on whether you write retail or insurance estimates. Insurance estimates start from the carrier's scope; FieldStacker does not create Xactimate or ESX estimates, but it can read the adjuster's scope PDF and build your insurance estimate and supplement requests from it. For retail replacements and repairs, the best roof estimating software builds clear Good, Better and Best options from your own prices, takes a signature and a deposit on the spot, and follows up if the homeowner goes quiet. FieldStacker does both from $30/mo.
Can I write a roofing estimate on my phone?
Yes. Pick your Good, Better and Best roof options, search your own price list as you add lines, tick the add-ons you want to offer, set a deposit and send it by text or email, or hand the phone to the homeowner to sign right there.
Does the estimate calculate squares for me?
Yes, from the measurement you give it. Measure roof on the map gives roof area, pitch and pitch bands from satellite data, which is an estimate and not a certified report. You can trace the edges on the map, type them in, or import the EagleView, Roofr, Hover or GAF QuickMeasure report you bought. The roof options price per square from those numbers, with adders for steep pitch, extra layers, two- and three-story homes, low slope and decking. You set the prices and formulas, and your inspection has the final word.
Can homeowners choose upgrades on a roofing estimate?
Yes. The homeowner picks the Good, Better or Best roof, and add-ons such as the permit, a chimney or skylight re-flash, a ridge vent, new gutters or gutter guards that you did not include are offered as optional extras they can tick. The conversation is about choices, not about writing a second quote.
How do roofing estimating software deposits work?
Set a deposit as a percentage or a dollar amount on the estimate. When the homeowner signs, they can pay it by card through your own Stripe account, and you can record a check, Zelle or Venmo instead. FieldStacker adds no fee on top of standard Stripe rates.
Does FieldStacker create Xactimate or insurance estimates?
It creates insurance estimates, but it does not create Xactimate estimates or read or write ESX files. Mark the roof quote as an insurance claim, and FieldStacker can read the adjuster's scope PDF to fill in the claim numbers and roof lines. The estimate is priced at the scope's replacement cost (RCV) plus approved supplements, the deposit asked is the ACV, and it shows who pays what: the deductible is the homeowner's, the ACV check and recoverable depreciation come from insurance. It never waives the deductible, which is the law in many states.
Can roof estimating software build my material order?
FieldStacker can. Every material line, from shingles, starter and hip and ridge to ice and water, drip edge, pipe boots and decking, has a quantity formula over the roof's eaves, rakes, ridges, hips, valleys, flashing and squares by pitch, with waste on field shingles only. You edit the catalog, the costs and the formulas. The order is emailed to your supplier from your business email, or printed or copied, and it will not email while the edges are still estimates.
