Seven tools service businesses shortlist, from a free plan for one tech to quote-only software for large shops: who each fits, what it costs and where it falls short.
14-day free trial · no credit card · from $30/mo · your techs are free
Disclosure: We make FieldStacker, so weigh our pick accordingly. Every price below comes from each company's own pricing page, checked October 26, 2026.
They are listed from the smallest crew each one fits to the largest. Most limitations are about which plan a feature lives on, because that is where the price you see and the price you pay drift apart.

ServiceM8
For: a solo tech or a small crew who wants to pay by how many jobs they do.
Does well: prices by job volume, not by user, with no user cap on paid plans, and a 14-day trial with no card.
Price: Free plan for 1 user and 30 jobs a month; Starter $29/mo for 50 jobs; Growing $79/mo for 150 jobs.
Limitation: a busy month can push you into the next tier, and the free plan is one user only.
FieldStacker
For: owner-operators and small crews who want the whole job, the website and the marketing in one bill.
Does well: requests, e-sign estimates, a schedule board, invoices, service plans with autopay, job costing, QuickBooks Online sync, a customer portal and a website with 10 business emails, all in Pro. Techs you add are free.
Price: Pro $30/mo, or $25/mo billed yearly; Team $60/mo for you plus 2 seats; 14-day trial, no card.
Limitation: no flat-rate price book or consumer financing, and it syncs with QuickBooks Online only, not Desktop.
Jobber
For: small and mid-sized service businesses that want a long-established tool with tiered plans.
Does well: the Core plan already includes online booking, quotes, invoicing with online payments, a website and reporting, and the trial needs no card.
Price: Core $49/mo for 1 user billed monthly ($29/mo billed annually after the first 12 months); Connect from $139/mo; extra users $29/mo.
Limitation: QuickBooks Online sync, checklists and automated reminders start at Connect, and job costing and two-way texting at Grow ($199/mo for 1 user).
Housecall Pro
For: home service companies that want to offer customers financing.
Does well: the Basic plan includes consumer financing, a price book, job costing and review management, with a 14-day trial of Max features and no card.
Price: Basic $79/mo for 1 user ($59/mo yearly); Essentials $189/mo for 5 users; Max $329/mo for 8 users.
Limitation: QuickBooks Online sync, checklists and employee GPS start at Essentials, recurring service plans and route optimization at Max, and add-ons have no public prices.
Workiz
For: service businesses that want phone and AI tools (its "Genius" add-ons) tied to scheduling.
Does well: even its Standard plan lists scheduling, invoices and estimates, online payments, five automations, QuickBooks integration and subcontractor management.
Price: pricing on request for Standard, Pro and Ultimate. Its FAQ describes a 7-day free trial with no card.
Limitation: no public prices, and service plans, checklists, multi-day jobs and inventory are all in the top Ultimate plan.
Service Fusion
For: growing companies with many office and field users who want one price per plan.
Does well: every plan covers all your users, plans are month-to-month, and Starter includes scheduling, invoicing, payments and QuickBooks integration.
Price: Starter $245/mo month-to-month ($208/mo billed annually); Plus $382/mo; Pro $627/mo.
Limitation: a high starting price for a small crew, and the customer portal, e-sign and recurring invoicing are Pro features or paid add-ons. The page offers a demo; a trial is not stated.
ServiceTitan
For: larger residential and commercial trades such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, garage door and pest control.
Does well: three plans built for bigger shops: Starter, Essentials and The Works.
Price: pricing on request; no dollar figures on its pricing page.
Limitation: you can't see a price without a sales conversation, and the pricing page offers a demo rather than a free trial.

How to choose
Four questions that narrow the list fast.
What does a tech cost?
Per-user pricing grows with every hire. Work out the price for your crew a year from now, not just today.
Which plan has your must-haves?
QuickBooks sync, job costing, checklists and service plans often sit one or two tiers up. Price the plan that has them.
Can you see the price?
If the page says "request pricing", expect a sales call and maybe a contract. That suits some shops and slows others down.
Can you run real jobs free?
A no-card trial lets you quote, schedule and invoice a real week before you commit.
What FieldStacker looks like on a Monday morning
If FieldStacker is on your shortlist, this is the first screen you'd see each day: new requests, invoices past due, finished jobs not yet invoiced, estimates to follow up and approved estimates to schedule, each with its dollar total. For the whole feature tour, see our field service software page, and for a feature-by-feature look at the biggest name here, FieldStacker vs Jobber.
Job costing is where plans differ most
Most tools on this list can send an invoice. Fewer show what a job made on the plan you'll start on. Jobber puts job costing on Grow, Housecall Pro includes it in Basic, Service Fusion puts it on Plus, and FieldStacker includes it in Pro. If you want to know which jobs actually pay, that line is worth checking first. For how jobs move from request to paid, see job management software.
Questions about choosing field service software
What is the best field service management software?
There is no single best for everyone. Big HVAC, plumbing and electrical shops with many technicians often look at ServiceTitan. Small and mid-sized crews usually compare Jobber, Housecall Pro and FieldStacker. A solo tech doing a few jobs a week can start on ServiceM8's free plan. Match the tool to your crew size and how you want to pay.
What is the best field service software for a small business?
For a crew of one to fifteen, look for a published price, no seat minimum, a no-card free trial and the money features you need, such as QuickBooks Online sync and job costing, in the plan you can afford. Check which plan each feature is on: on Jobber, QuickBooks sync starts at Connect and job costing at Grow. FieldStacker includes both in its $30/mo Pro plan.
What is the best field service app for technicians?
The one your techs will open on every job: their day, the job notes, a checklist, photos and a way to take payment. Also look at what each tech costs you. Jobber charges $29 a month per extra user and Housecall Pro Max $35 per extra user; techs you add to FieldStacker as technicians are free.
Which top field service management software publishes its prices?
On October 26, 2026, FieldStacker, Jobber, Housecall Pro, Service Fusion and ServiceM8 showed prices on their pricing pages. ServiceTitan and Workiz showed "Request pricing" on every plan, and FieldPulse offered a custom quote.
Is ServiceTitan worth it for a small business?
ServiceTitan is built for larger residential and commercial trades, and its pricing page lists Starter, Essentials and The Works with per-technician pricing on request. If you have a handful of techs and want to start this week, a tool with a published price and a self-serve trial is usually a better first step.
